Breads, Biscuits and Cakes Recipes - Cheese and Tomato Rolls

Ingredients  

  • 400 g/14 oz/3 1/2 cups plain (all-purpose) flour

  • 50 g/2 oz/1/2 cup rice flour

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp baking powder

  • 10 ml/2 tsp salt

  • 5 ml/1 tsp mustard powder

  • 5 ml/1 tsp cayenne

  • 450 g/1 lb Cheddar cheese, grated

  • 120 ml/1/2 cup tomato relish

  • 2 size 1 eggs, beaten

  • 300 ml/1 1/4 cups milk Butter


Method:

  1. Sift the flour with the rice flour, baking powder, salt, mustard and cayenne. Stir in three-quarters of the cheese.

  2. Add the tomato relish, the eggs and enough milk to form a soft but not sticky dough.

  3. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface and shape into 12 rolls.

  4. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet brush with any remaining milk and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

  5. Bake in the oven at 220°C/425°F/gas mark 7 for 20 minutes or until risen and golden brown. Serve warm with butter.
