Meats Recipes - Indian Naan Burgers

Ingredients                                        

  • 50 g/2 oz/1/4 cup unsalted (sweet) butter

  • 10 ml/2 tsp garam masala

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp Madras curry powder

  • 350 g/12 oz/3 cups minced (ground) lamb

  • 100 g/4 oz/1 cup cooked basmati rice

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp plain yoghurt

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 size 4 egg, beaten

  • 4 pieces naan bread

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Chopped tomato

  • Chopped cucumber

  • Lemon wedges


Method:

  1. Melt half the butter in a pan. Add the garam masala and the curry powder and fry (sauté) for 2 minutes.

  2. Remove from the heat and work in the lamb, rice, yoghurt and a little salt and pepper.

  3. Stir in the egg and chill for 30 minutes. Shape into 4 oval cakes.

  4. Melt the remaining butter and fry the cakes for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.

  5. Lift on to pieces of warm naan bread, add the lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Fold over and serve with the lemon wedges.
