Meats Recipes - Spaghetti with Hamburger Sauce

Ingredients

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 1 green (bell) pepper, diced

  • 1 garlic clove, crushed

  • 100 g/4 oz mushrooms, chopped

  • 400 g/14 oz/1 large can chopped tomatoes

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp tomato puree (paste)

  • 5 ml/1 tsp sugar

  • 5 ml/1 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 450 g/1lb hamburgers (4 large or 8 small)

  • 350 g/12 oz spaghetti


Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the onion, pepper and garlic and fry (sauté) for 4 minutes until soft and lightly golden.

  2. Stir in the mushrooms and fry for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, sugar, oregano and a little salt and pepper.

  3. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for to minutes until pulpy.

  4. Meanwhile, grill (broil) the hamburgers until browned and cooked through on both sides.

  5. Cook the spaghetti in boiling, salted water until tender. Drain. Pile on to a serving dish. Lay the hamburgers on top and spoon the sauce over.
